Recruiters Find Candidates Through Networks, Including Social Media
I’ve been doing some research on recruiters and their placement processes. Recruiters have a variety of names including head-hunters, management consultants, executive search firms, placement companies, staffing companies or agencies, office support agencies, employment agencies and industrial help companies.
Did you know most Canadian recruiting firms have never run an ad advertising a position in the newspaper or on the internet? That’s because it’s a recruiter’s job to find the right candidates to fill positions quickly and discretely. Here are a couple of little known facts about recruiters:
1. Recruiters almost always fill job requisitions using their own network – including job seekers who contact them and are on file. So taking a proactive approach by contacting recruiters is necessary to finding work. After all, recruiters place most employment contracts.
2. Recruiters are increasingly using Blogs, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with candidates. It is free to create a blog with blogger and WordPress and then link it to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. And your competition is utilizing free social media already. So here’s my post on free social media resources to get started: http://lizajlee.com/blog/social-media/free-resources-to-help-you-get-started-with-social-media.
With the proactive approach and social network trend in mind, I’m compiling a growing list of Vancouver recruitment and job board websites for easy reference, starting with A to J.
