Recruiters Know the Hidden Temporary and Permanent Job Markets

Recruiters normally fill between 20 to 40% of most types of positions. At the highest level (CEO, President, VP and director level) the percentage is usually higher than 40%. Recruiters are in the marketplace day in and day out. They know “hidden job market” whether for permanent jobs or temporary contracts and the roadmap to these hidden sources, which will never be revealed by newspaper ads, alumni associations, applicant databases, job boards or any of the other more familiar sources of job seekers.

Although recruiters don’t work for you, the good ones will work with you. Recruiters have the insider information on what the hiring organization is looking for and they can advise you to your advantage. With a hiring company in mind, a recruiter will make recommendations on how you should change your resume, the way you interview and/or the way you dress. If this is the case, heed his or her advice. Once you’re working with recruiters, here are two ways to keep in touch:

1. If a recruiter wants to work with you, you can maintain contact once a week with email. The recruiter is more likely to make an effort to place you, knowing that you’re still available for upcoming opportunities.

2, A second way to keep in contact with recruiters is to invite them to connect with you on LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network with over 65 million members. Staying visible is necessary to finding your next job or contract. For example, you can find me on LinkedIn at http://ca.linkedin.com/in/lizajlee.

As my WordPress blog in connected to my LinkedIn account, posting blogs regularly will keep me top of mind. I’m compiling a growing list of Vancouver recruitment and job board websites for easy reference. You can find websites starting with letters A to J in the previous blog post and websites starting with letters K to Z below:
